The Ministry of Justice and the National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) of Cameroon have singled out justice and equity as guarantors of payment of the rights of a just NSIF beneficiary, protectors and securers of expenses of the institution which has often come under the attack of malicious predators.
The concerted move was the substance of a workshop held recently at NSIF headquarters in Yaounde. The long-running seminar is geared at ameliorating NSIF’s working relationship, collaboration with judicial authorities, particularly on social insurance litigations.
NSIF is said to continuously face fierce litigations from social contributors, some of whom use illicit methods to extort money from it. Experts from both institutions have observed that, most times, judgments passed by judicial authorities over social insurance litigations, fall short of, and are not in tandem with the peculiarities of the law on the organisation and functioning of NSIF.
“Boosting court authorities’ knowledge on social insurance legislation” was therefore the key point at the event chaired by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Justice, Jean De Dieu MOMO, personal representative of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, in the company of the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire OWONA, and the Director General of NSIF, Noël Alain Olivier MEKULU MVONDO.
Trainees include Heads of Courts of Appeal, Administrative Courts, High Courts, Courts of First Instance and Registrars practising in regional headquarters and other earmarked areas. Also involved are authorities of Regional Litigation Commissions in charge of social insurance and the Head of the Department of Magistracy and Registrars of ENAM.
General objectives of the training, deepening the mastery of the texts regulating social insurance and its litigations in Cameroon, developing practical exchanges that will implicate a good application of the law on social insurance in Cameroon, mastering all the specificities of judicial texts, legislative and regulatory instruments orientating the legislation of social insurance in Cameroon, acquiring perfect knowledge of national and international texts on the organisation and functioning of NSIF among others.
